NFL Sophomore Jinx

As we have seen time and time again, young NFL players struggle to get over their sophomore slump/hump and will the class of 2009, Michael Crabtree and Darrius Heyward-Bey, be any different?

For Michael Crabtree, Wide Receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, you could argue that he is still in his rookie season considering he was a holdout for the first 6 games of last NFL season with the 49ers. The 49ers organization and fans are banking on Crabtree, $32 Million / 6 year contract, to help get them into the playoffs in the upcoming 2010-11 NFL Season.

Darrius Heyward-Bey, Wide Receiver for the Oakland Raiders, has been hiding in the shadows at Raiders practices since all the media attention has been focused on the Raiders QB problems. For Heyward-Bey, he had a decent rookie season last year, starting 11 games for the Raiders so look for him to have a much better sophomore season.

NFL Season Picks

Amongst all the big rookie contracts from last season, I’m only picking Crabtree to really show a positive return on investment for this upcoming NFL season. There really aren’t any bets that have odds on NFL sophomore jinxes, but you can bet on the 49ers to win a lot of games this NFL season with major help coming from Michael Crabtree.
