NFL Sophomore Jinx

As we have seen time and time again, young NFL players struggle to get over their sophomore slump/hump and will the class of 2009, Michael Crabtree and Darrius Heyward-Bey, be any different?

For Michael Crabtree, Wide Receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, you could argue that he is still in his rookie season considering he was a holdout for the first 6 games of last NFL season with the 49ers. The 49ers organization and fans are banking on Crabtree, $32 Million / 6 year contract, to help get them into the playoffs in the upcoming 2010-11 NFL Season.

Darrius Heyward-Bey, Wide Receiver for the Oakland Raiders, has been hiding in the shadows at Raiders practices since all the media attention has been focused on the Raiders QB problems. For Heyward-Bey, he had a decent rookie season last year, starting 11 games for the Raiders so look for him to have a much better sophomore season.

NFL Season Picks

Amongst all the big rookie contracts from last season, I’m only picking Crabtree to really show a positive return on investment for this upcoming NFL season. There really aren’t any bets that have odds on NFL sophomore jinxes, but you can bet on the 49ers to win a lot of games this NFL season with major help coming from Michael Crabtree.

NFL’s Isaac Bruce Retires

From once having his own action figure, to now looking forward to appearing in Preparation H and Slim Fast commercials, St. Louis Rams record breaking wide receiver, Isaac Bruce, has announced his retirement from the glitz and glamour that is the NFL.

After playing in the NFL for nearly 15 years, Bruce had 4 NFL Pro Bowl selections to go along with his impressive stats:

* 1024 Receptions
* 15208 Receiving Yards
* 91 Touchdowns

NFL Online Betting News

Although Bruce will technically retire a St. Louis Ram, his last ever NFL game was played as a San Francisco 49er. Last season with the 49ers Bruce had limited playing time with most of the attention being focused on rookie sensation, Michael Crabtree. Like we previously mentioned, the 49ers offense has been cleaning house this offseason and come NFL kickoff time, they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the NFC conference of the NFL.

You can bet online that a lot of 49ers games this NFL season will be decided by their offense, not their defense. Currently the Bodog online sportsbook has the 49ers favored as 35/1 betting odds favorites to win the NFL Super Bowl which I think are pretty great odds.

Super Bowl Champions

After winning the 2009-10 NFL Super Bowl, the New Orleans Saints are looking for a second go at it and are making some moves to be a better and stronger team for this upcoming NFL season. Only seven teams have won back to back Super Bowls in the NFL, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have done it twice. The New Orleans Saints are also looking to make this exclusive list but they have to take it one game at a time, just like we have to take our online bets one bet at a time. If you have a bad Sunday, don’t think you have to make up your losses all on the Monday night football game!

Online Betting Strategies

Many online betting players have different strategies on which NFL teams to bet on, some weird and most ridiculous. I myself go with the tried and tested online betting strategy which mostly just looks at the history of the two NFL teams playing.

For example, the Saints won the Super Bowl last season, officially making them the best team in the NFL. The Saints pretty much have the same lineup this season, with the exception of first round draft pick Malcolm Jenkins who is a cornerback by nature, but will be playing safety this season so that he can crack the Steelers starting lineup. With these minor, but improving changes, the Saints are looking unbeatable again this season so unless the team your betting on beat the Saints last season, I would bet on the Saints to beat them again this season.

New York Jets 2010-11 NFL Season

With the exceptional play of dirty Mark Sanchez in his debut NFL rookie season last year, you would think that this NFL season the New York Jets would be on the right path to win some games. The New York Jets were able to successfully rebound from the Brett Favre debacle a couple of NFL seasons ago, but now they seem to be facing some new challenges with Vernon Gholston.

New York Jets Move Vernon Gholston

Although the New York Jets have not cut or traded Vernon Gholston, a former 6th pick overall draft pick, the Jets have moved him from offensive linebacker to a defensive end. Gholston was drafted into the New York Jets organization to be a NFL playmaker however things did not work out the way anyone planned. Now with a second crack at the NFL, Gholston has a chance to solidify his spot in the NFL with the Jets. As seen in the above picture, he has the muscles to do it, but does he have the right attitude? Only time will tell if Gholston will be worth betting on.

Ben Roethlisberger Breaks His Silence

In the above picture Ben Roethlisberger is not judging a contest to see who has the best microphone, however it is the first time he has spoken with the media since his sexual transgressions. I’m getting sick of writing about the Ben Roethlisberger saga, and I’m sure you guys are getting sick of reading it so moving forward this will be the last time we talk about it, unless of course there is nothing else to talk about!

NFL Online Betting News

Ben Roethlisberger’s publicist has just recently announced that Ben will not be sharing his side of the story with reporters after practices, after games, or in any press conferences this year, but he does want to tell his side of the story on a grand scale in front of a larger audience.

Rumors have recently been speculated that Roethlisberger will be telling his story on either Larry King Live or the Oprah Show. As much as I love NFL news stories, I’m not sure how many NFL football fans are going to be interested in watching Roethlisberger shedding tears on the Oprah Show in between commercial breaks for tampons and women’s deodorant. Unless Oprah is giving out NFL betting odds or betting picks, you can count me out.

Dallas Cowboys 2010-11 NFL Season

For a team whose owner gets more television coverage than most players on his team, you might think that Jerry Jones would be the main cause for a lot of confusion and distraction in the locker room, and you would be right. Jerry Jones is an NFL owner that is as hands-on as they come. Jerry Jones decides who starts and who does not for the Cowboys, and that has gotten Marion Barber fans a bit upset.

Marion Barber’s NFL Future

Earlier this spring the Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, announced that Felix Jones (no relation) would have the #1 starting running back position for the Dallas Cowboys. A few weeks after that Jerry Jones changed his decision and stated that Marion Barber would be able to regain his rightful position as the Cowboys starting running back. Now as of a few days ago, Jerry Jones has gone back to Felix Jones for the #1 running back spot. It’s a game of musical chairs in the Cowboys camp.

Marion Barber is a talented and incredibly tough player and if the Dallas Cowboys cannot guarantee him the #1 spot, I wouldn’t be surprised if another NFL team comes knocking on Jerry Jones’s door, you can bet on it!

Big Ben Back in Pittsburg

Big Ben Roethlisberger is taking a little break from doing belly shots to focus his attention on his NFL career. Although Ben will miss the first 6 weeks of this year’s NFL regular season due to his league enforced suspension, he is still allowed to attend the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp which is good news if you are a Steelers football betting fan.

Ben Roethlisberger Betting

For the second day in a row, Ben Roethlisberger refused to speak to the media which makes sense because at this point there isn’t anything he can say to them and Roethlisberger just has to let his play on the NFL field do the talking. Unfortunately if you enjoy betting online in favor of the Pittsburgh Steelers, you might want to bet against them for at least the first 6 weeks of this NFL betting season. Although the Pittsburgh Steelers are more than just a one quarterback team, it is the confidence and leadership that Roethlisberger brings that inspires Coach Tomlin and the rest of the Steelers.

Our NFL betting prescription; wait at least 5-6 weeks before you bet online for or against the Steelers.
